Benefits of collagen

The Top 5 Benefits of Collagen for Men & Women

Collagen is the most abundant protein in the human body and the main component of our connective tissues. It helps us look younger on the outside and feel better on the inside.

But as we age, our body’s natural collagen production starts decreasing. Collagen supplements can help minimize the signs of aging in many ways.

1. Collagen Benefits for Skin, Hair, And Nails

Most people who have heard of collagen often associate it with healthier and younger-looking skin. In fact, skin health and appearance are #1 on the long list of collagen benefits.

As we age, our body’s natural collagen production declines — it’s happening as you read this. The effects of having less collagen are both internal, affecting our organs, and external, affecting our skin, hair, and nails.

You may notice that the skin on your face is looser, has more wrinkles, and starts drying out. Most of the time, increasing your collagen levels is enough for your skin to look firmer, younger, and smoother. That’s because collagen is one of the main building blocks of your skin. It plays a major role in strengthening and keeping it elastic while assisting with cell renewal and repair.

Collagen is an excellent supplement to prevent and treat weak hair and nails too. Like for the skin, it's an essential compound of our hair and nails. So not only does it help your hair grow longer and stronger by increasing the body’s natural hair-building proteins, but it alsoinitiates hair growth and reduces the look of grey hair, which is excellent for reducing hair loss and aging.

Ultimately, people with a collagen-inclusive diet show much fewer signs of aging.

2. Collagen helps repair leaky gut

How collagen helps with leaky gut syndrome

Did you know that nearly 80% of your immune system is housed in your gut? And yet, most of us suffer from poor gut health and leaky gut syndrome.

The standard American diet and lifestyle may very well be the primary underlying causes here, as sugar, saturated fats, stress, and alcohol are believed to disrupt our gut’s microbiome balance, which could ultimately lead to the leaky gut syndrome.

The leaky gut syndrome is defined by abnormal intestinal permeability. When working correctly, our intestinal lining forms a tight barrier that helps control what can enter our bloodstream and what cannot.

But when our gut gets “leakier” than it should, cracks and holes allow food particles, toxins, and bugs to penetrate our system via the bloodstream. Ultimately, this can trigger inflammation and digestive tract issues, leading to numerous chronic health conditions.

Collagen plays a major role in preventing leaky gut syndrome. It assists in breaking down proteins and soothes your gut’s lining by infusing it with beneficial amino acids(particularly glycine and glutamine) and healing damaged cell walls. It helps rebuild and strengthen our intestinal lining.

Studies have even found that collagen peptides improve the gut barrier function and tight junction.[1].

The effects of collagen and sea moss on gut health

For optimal gut health, we’ve coupled collagen peptides with sea moss, one of the best natural prebiotic foods that help rebalance our gut's microbiome by feeding the good bacteria and crowding out the bad ones.

The combined effects of collagen and sea moss have proven to improve gut health, reduce bowel inflammation, and help prevent chronic gastrointestinal conditions like inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), ulcers, and leaky gut syndrome.

3. Collagen Reduces Joint Pain and Inflammation

Have you ever felt like you’ve got “skeleton legs”? That your legs feel extra stiff and cause pain when you move? That may be because your joints are inflamed, and your articulations aren’t as smooth as they used to be. But, in numerous cases, the underlying cause is simply a collagen deficiency.

Collagen deficiency and joint pain

When we lose collagen as we age, our tendons and ligaments move less easily, leading to stiffness, swollen joints, and pain. Collagen builds a smooth, gel-like structure that covers and holds our bones, joints, and ligaments together. Without it, everything becomes stiff and inflamed, sometimes causing intense pain.

Increasing your collagen consumption with collagen-rich foods like sea moss or collagen peptide supplements is proven to improve joint health significantly.

Multiple studies show that type II collagen can even help with joint pain caused by chronic health conditions like osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis[2], or intense physical activity[3].

Organics Nature’s collagen peptides and sea moss powder shows excellent results in fortifying bones, joints, and muscles, reducing pain and inflammation.

4. Collagen Helps with Wound Healing

Collagen for wound healing

Another immediate benefit of increasing your collagen intake is a better wound-healing process[4]. There are numerous ways in which collagen helps with all the phases of wound healing:

  • It attracts fibroblasts to the wound site. Fibroblasts are the most common cells in connective tissues and are responsible for making the extracellular matrix. Therefore, they're essential in the wound-healing process.
  • It boosts the formation of granulation tissue, the new connective tissue and blood vessels that form on the surface of a wound during the healing process.
  • It helps debride the wound and remove dead and damaged tissue to improve the healing.
  • It helps re-epithelize the wound by promoting the growth of new epithelium, an essential body tissue that covers all internal and external surfaces of the body.

The synergy of collagen and sea moss for wound healing

Collagen and sea moss share many benefits for health, and one of their common properties is to boost the wound-healing process. Like collagen, sea moss naturally helps with wound healing.

Besides its anti-inflammatory compounds, this seaweed contains high levels of zinc, a mineral known to boost skin healing. Zinc is commonly used in dermatology for topical wound-healing creams.

Whether applied topically on minor wounds or ingested orally, sea moss helps speed up the healing process. As a result, the skin recovers faster and is less likely to have nasty scars.

That's another reason we've combined collagen peptides and sea moss in our powder.

5. Collagen Improves Sleep Quality and Mood

Last, collagen is quietly being touted as a potent mood relaxer, sleep promotor, and productivity booster.

Recent human studies show that three grams of glycine (found in one collagen serving) taken before bed improves the quality of your sleep. In addition to normalizing sleep, glycine also helped alleviate the symptoms of sleep deprivation. So, if you are sleepy during the day or have trouble falling asleep at night, it is worth reaping some of these benefits from collagen peptides.

Mix it with sea moss, one of the most nutrient-rich foods on earth, and you’ve got yourself the perfect energy-boosting combo to recover from difficult nights.

Hi Helen,
You can take both the sea moss gel and the Irish collagen peptides together, but you must make sure not to exceed the total daily recommended dosage for sea moss to avoid side effects!
Here’s a helpful article to find out how much sea moss you can have daily: https://www.organicsnature.co/blogs/news/how-much-sea-moss-to-take-daily
